Welcome to the Montessori Peaks Library Page!
|
The library and computer lab are in their third year and are managed by Heather Walter, the MPA librarian, along with a wonderful
group of parent volunteers. Kindergarten and elementary students visit the library
with their classes at regularly scheduled times and parents are welcome to stop
in any time with their preschoolers. To view our catalogue online, click here! You may not place holds online at this point,
but that may be a possibility sometime in the future.

Since we first opened the library, two amazing artists who are also MPA parents,
Lorianne Siomades
and Terri Coffmann,
have been donating their time and talents to paint an extraordinary mural all the
way around the walls of the library. The mural is a work-in-progress and the students
delight in finding new things that have been added, sometimes even getting to watch
the artists as they create their magic. There is an ongoing fundraiser associated
with the mural in which families may donate money to the library and have their
family name or child’s name incorporated into the mural. If you are interested in
learning more about this, please contact Heather Walter for details.

We love our volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering in the MPA library,
please contact Kathleen Nixon,
our dynamic library volunteer coordinator. Kathleen has been working in the library
since it opened and knows all the “ins and outs” of how it’s all done. She can find
out what your interests are and what your time limits are and then arrange a time
to train you in the library. Be sure to keep track of your time so you can use it
against your MPA parent volunteer hours!

We are always grateful for donations. If you decide you want to donate new or used
books to the MPA Library, here are a few things to keep in mind:
|
Books should be in like-new or gently-used condition. Books with rips, tears, missing
pages, broken bindings, or marked-up pages will not be added to the collection.
We only have room for one or two copies of each book. If you donate a book that
we already have a copy of, the copy in the best shape will be kept for our library
and the other(s) will be passed along to classrooms or other school libraries.
In order to keep our students well informed, we are only keeping non-fiction less
than twenty years old.
Hardcovers are almost always preferable to paperback, especially with picture books
and non-fiction. Juvenile fiction books (kids’ fiction with chapters) are accepted
in paperback format.
If you are interested in donating used books to the library, please contact Heather
to arrange a time to drop off. If you would like to receive a donation receipt,
you may stop in the business office with a list of the items donated and their approximate
value, and our Business Manager, Donna Kane will provide you with a donation receipt.
If you decide to buy new books for the library, please consider checking out our
Library Wish List here on this web page. The wish list is comprised of suggestions
and requests from MPA students and teachers, award-winning books and classic literature
we have not yet obtained for our library. The Library Wish List is updated periodically
as new items come in or as new requests are made. If you do decide to donate new
books to the library, please save your receipt from your purchase and you may use
the money you spent towards “buying off” some of your volunteer hours ($10 = 1 hour
volunteer time).
Of course, the library will always accept cash donations as well. Please contact
our business manager, Donna
Kane, if you wish to give a cash donation to the library.
Another way to donate to the library is with pet care. We have a turtle tank with a red-eared slider and
a hermit crab tank in the library and both take time and money for care. If you
are interested in assuming responsibility for care of one of our critters for the
school year, please contact Heather to make arrangements.
